The Other Side of 160

When I moved back to my hometown in August, one of the things I vowed to do was get back into shape. I vowed to do many other things during my months of unemployment, such as read through my huge backlog of books or learn to shave with a non-electric razor, but in this case I actually stuck to this goal. On my birthday last year, I was exactly 182lbs, which was frighteningly close to the heaviest I’ve ever (knowingly) weighed. In the months that followed, I joined a local gym, increased my weekly dancing regimen, and paid a fair amount of attention to what and how much I was eating.

Much to my delight, when I stepped on the bathroom scale this past Monday (in other words, one year later), I weighed 159.6 lbs. I cannot even remember the last time I weighed under 160 lbs, annd that’s with an increase in muscle mass! What’s more, I’ve been able to maintain this waistline since I moved back to Sacramento in June without setting foot inside a gym. Obviously I’m doing something right.

I do miss going to the gym, and I need to be better about meal-planning and eating healthier, but I can hardly complain with the results. My body still isn’t quite in the shape I’d like it, but this last year I laid a strong foundation for my future fitness. This next year will be focused on building the edifice.
