I’m Writing a Novel!

In case you haven’t heard, November is National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo to it’s friends). What’s more, I’m actually participating this year. That’s right: this aspiring author with aspire no more! Come November 30th, I’ll be a certified novelist!

… Or at least, that’s the idea.

In order to “win,” you have to write a novel of at least 50,000 words.

That’s approximately 175 pages.

And spread out over 30 days, I’ll have to write at least 1,667 words per day just to stay on track.

To be honest, my enthusiasm is starting to falter and panic setting in. Can I really do this? Am I cut out for a marathon of writing incomparable to anything I’ve done before? Looking at my recent track record on this blog (and my penchant for procrastination), my odds aren’t looking so good.

But that’s where you guys come in.

For better or for worse, over the next month I’m going to be talking about my novel A LOT. That means if you read this blog or follow me on Facebook or Twitter, most of my output is gonna be related to my progress. What I need everyone to do is offer as much encouragement and guilt as you can. If I post a status about watching a movie, ask me how many words I’ve written that day. If I need a change of scenery, please tell me about some nice coffee shop where I can furiously type out the day’s chapter. And if you’re also participating in NaNoWriMo, let me know. We’ll be writing buddies and keep each other on track.

The noveling begins tomorrow, so I’m gonna finish my story outline. I know I can count on you guys!
