The Great Job Hunt of 2010

Well, I officially have my degree, so I guess that means I need to go out into the world and find a job. That’s what I hear most people do after graduating anyway.

I’ve spent the last month or so hitting the internet job boards, hoping that all the doom and gloom I’ve heard about the job market was just hype. Although I can’t say that I’m seeing jobs handed out on every street corner, I’m fairly satisfied with what I’m finding. I’ve been primarily looking for editing positions, since I already know it’s something I enjoy. Plus between school and work, I’ve earned quite a bit of experience in the field. Editing may not sound like a profession bursting with demand right now, but you’d be surprised. In the Sacramento area alone, I’ve applied for opening at both Hewlett-Packard and Pearson Education.

And then, of course, the was the Holy Grail of job openings: an Editor position at Google!

Although I did not get the job with HP, I’m still waiting to hear back from the other two. Working for Google would obviously be a dream, but since I haven’t heard anything from them in almost a month, I’m not holding my breath on getting it. Either their HR department is really backed-up or I didn’t make it to the interview phase.

I’ve got my fingers crossed regardless.
